LOST tonight

I'm gonna be out of town this weekend, so I figured if I didn't watch this week's episode tonight, I wouldn't be able to watch it til next week. Also, I'm gonna be seeing Jim this weekend, and he'll surely have watched it, and it'll be cooler if he could speak freely about it, heh.

My usual scattin' follows...

Ben (to Juliet): You never made soup for me.

I don't think that's exactly the line (or is it?), but the message, the players, the shots, the situation, and even the environment all together felt like a reference to... Anyone? Anyone? THE... Anyone? THE... Anyone? THE MATRIX, very good. That's right. When Joey Pants as Cypher surprises Trinity outside Neo's cabin on the Nebuchadnezzar, just after she's brought him something to eat... Soup, perhaps? And Cypher half-teases her about how she never brought *him* soup.

Anyone?

Maybe Ben's a fan of the Wachowski Brothers' work. Perhaps we'll hear him make other nerdy references and quotes. Perhaps he already has...?

Poor Connie/Trixie... gut shot by Sun. I was hoping Sun might reveal a bit more of her dad in her than anyone else would have guessed, y'know? But, well, that would've been too outlandish.

*blink blink*

Did *I* just write that something might be too outlandish? Weird...

=)

But with Jin... It *is* a little disturbing, but I love seeing Jin go all gangster. Not really even the violent stuff, like putting that serious beat down on baldy, but more the ready-for-anything-ness, y'know? When Sayid hands him the automatic and is about to explain how to handle it, Jin pops the clip and puts one in the chamber, just like that. Kickass. =)

I'm totally diggin Sawyer, man. He really is stepping up to the Han Solo plate now. Although he's definitely still very much a work in progress, heh...

Kate: You expect me to work in this dress?
Shocky McForeman: It's up to you. You can take it off if you want.
Sawyer: [Catching the smartass drift, gives Kate the lecherous eye and eyebrow. Kate glares at him. Sawyer straightens up and turns back to Shocky...]
How *dare* you!

I can't figure out where it is that he turned the corner for me, from total jerkass to misguided rogue. His "Long Con" backstory helped a little... And the revenge story, too I guess. But Kate spelling it out a while back, asking him why he's always got to make everyone hate him, I think that really broke the ice.

So, Jin knows more English than anyone thinks. Perhaps he was taking lessons from Jae also...?

Nah. =)

Does anyone have all the names of the Others that we've heard/seen so far? I was randomishly wondering if they might have been alphabetical code names. So far I've got Adam (book club), Ben (Great Leader), Connie (shot by Sun), Dee (Walt's test proctor lady), Juliet (Jack's soup maker), and Tom (meatier Charles Napier lookin fake beard guy).

LOVE the flashback to fall 2004 at the end, when Ben's taunting Jack with news from the outside world... Well, except for the part about Christopher Reeve's passing, and then that ghastly W-hatzhishead winning the election. Still very much don't love that. It's too bad that THAT isn't the most outrageous item on the list of current events... The most offensive to his common sense. Alas, it's the idea of the Red Sox winning the World Series that totally cracks Jack up. SO certain is he of its impossibility. Too funny. Too perfect!

Dayumn, how did J.J. Abrams fix that?

Would've been subversively sweet if Ben dropped a hint or let slip that he and the other Islanders, or maybe the Initiative, had a hand in Arranging the election outcome.

I had a sad little joke theory that the devil made Kerry a one-time offer, either the Red Sox could win the World Series, or Kerry could win the Presidential election. And, being a true red-blooded New England boy, a son of Massachusetts, he made the only decision he could...

*sigh*

Hey, did anyone read Stephen King's co-authored book of letters and reminiscences from that season of the Red Sox? Would any of it be considered "religious hokum?" Heh. Nah, couldn't be, right? Cuz that book wouldn't have been published already by then (November 2004)? Or maybe King is part of the Initiative and they've got access to his working manuscripts. Altho, I suppose that wouldn't allow for enough time for the book club selection to make Juliet's "favorite book ever."

Hi. My name is Benjamin Linus, and I've lived on this island all my life.

So, Ben's been on the island his whole life. Born there. Raised by... the Initiative? The Initiative's subjects? The hit squad sent to sabotage the Initiative? Polar bears? Maybe he's the first of the second generation of futopians. Y'know, the ones who will step up and rebuild once most of the Earth's population is wiped out by bad spinach... Drax! That was the supervillain's name in MOONRAKER. =)

Hrm... how can that line be true and still hide something tricky? Ben could be much older or younger than he seems. Younger would make it more tricky, like maybe he's only ten years old, or a clone (okay, we've had NO mention of that so far that I can remember, I'm throwing that out there on my own), but was somehow aged at an accelerated rate, maybe with a purpose, maybe as a side effect.

Has time on the island, exposure to its weird energies, as well as Dharma's third eye and radiation research, rendered the Other-types sterile? It seems like children are of huge importance/significance to the Others, and it looks like they'd rather take them than make them, a la Rousseau's Alex, and Alex's friend Carl, who escapes the bear cage for a short while.

Ben's (MATRIX's Architect-like! =) monitors. Looks like there's a camera on Jack in the aquarium, a camera each on Kate and Sawyer in the bear cages, a camera down by the dock, and two others that I couldn't immediately make out. Hatches? Not obviously so. Places we haven't seen yet, I guess. Not fair that he gets audio, and can eavesdrop, bleah. Or was that just the audience that got to hear that, and not Ben...?

No clues to connections to people on the outside... I wish they'd give us more on Desmond's ex's dad, as well as Jack's pop. I'm convinced there's a powerful people side to the Initiative on the outside and that those two guys were or are plugged into it.

Keep on keepin on~
