IT'S A WONDERFUL LIFE & WONG KAR WAI!

Hot on the heels of my KONG plug...

But you can wait on KING, just a couple days, so that you can catch IT'S A WONDERFUL LIFE at a fundraising screening tomorrow (tonight) at the Brattle, as well as a kickass Wong Kar Wai three-fer all weekend. If you can see them all, please do. Maybe spread it out over the Friday thru Sunday. That would be a helluva thing. I don't know if this is quite a "trilogy," but the stories certainly do interlock and trigger some powerful movie-world deja vu, and keep your eyes and ears open - they're all so frickin gorgeous and move to the sweetest music...~

The threesome of movies is DAYS OF BEING WILD, IN THE MOOD FOR LOVE, and 2046...

I'll try to dig up my old blasts about them and post or link to them in a next entry. Hopefully soon. I'll likely be up in the small hours again tonight, post-vball and all, anyhow... =)

Keep on keepin on~

2046 has been knocking about for a year - maybe years? I forget when it hit Cannes - old, and had "wide" release in the U.S. earlier in the fall (which in Boston seems to mean it plays for a week at the Kendall w little fanfare and disappears, like THREE... EXTREMES - WTFinFityF-F?), and has been available on DVD for a long while now, but this, and all of Wong Kar Wai's films - well, except perhaps for AS TEARS GO BY, ack - should be caught larger-than-life whenever possible. It's hard to say where the director's genius starts and that of the cinematographer, Christopher Doyle, ends. Doyle's work is so gorgeous and crisp in so many genres and unclassifiables, from FALLEN ANGELS to LAST LIFE IN THE UNIVERSE to INFERNAL AFFAIRS, I can't not give him a lot of credit for the greatness of WKW's work. But WKW gets these performances out of his actors that always knock me out. Granted, he's got some kickass actors, the best of Hong Kong cinema, on his speed dial, but, well, you've gotta see his movies. I'll go with if you want to pick one... or three... Honestly, HARRY POTTER's not going anywhere. =)

Thank Buddha for the Brattle!~
